Designer Spotlight: Are we related??

Oliver Tolentino.

We have to be related, right?? :P

He just debuted his Spring 2010 collection in a LA Fashion Week on October 15th. I have never heard of this designer yet until I stopped by Apparel News and read about the recent shows at LA Fashion Week. And of course, his name definitely caught my eye.

Oliver Tolentino has been well established in the Philippines and moved to Los Angeles to get into the American market. He had tremendous success in the Philippines, dressing and styling for their top female stars such as Pops Fernandez and Regine Velasquez, and many more. He specializes in both bridal and fashion, both I must say are very amazing. When I was looking through his most recent collection, I couldn't believe how detailed, colorful, and well-constructed his pieces were. The vibrancy of his pieces really sets him apart from other designers. The choice of color patterns for the pieces were genius! Here are some of my favorite looks from his Spring 2010 collection, enjoy!

Crazy huh?? He is definitely a designer to watch out for! To see the rest of his collection, check out www.apparelnews.net and his website at www.olivertolentino.com.

Alright, back to class, then the weekend! :D
I will blog more asap!

It's all about Balance.

Happy Tuesday everyone! Hope you had a great weekend, I sure did! :)

This past Saturday was Culture Shock San Diego's Annual Showcase. My team - 220 Second to None - performed along with several talented teams as well. It was such an amazing experience because it was the first performance with the new 2009-2010 team as well as sharing the stage with amazing talent from all over the world! Showcases are a lot more fun for me than competitions because everyone is performing just to perform and not to win anything - there is not as much stress, but a lot more fun and excitement for everyone! I seriously cannot believe how lucky I am to be on the same team with all of these amazing people. Even though I have known the newbies for only three weeks, I feel like we've known each other for AT LEAST 3 months! The late night practices, the long hours together, and the unforgettable bonding from this weekend already gave me a little glimpse of our future for this upcoming year. I cannot wait to get handle this shit, let's GO!!!

Here are a few highlights from the weekend!

Friday night - practice at Pangea parking lot in UCSD, then team sleepover at Bucs' place!

Having fun the day of the show! Look at the 220 rainbow :)

Hope you liked the video! Our next performance is on December 12th at "The Bridge" Hip Hop Dance Competition! Stay Tuned for more updates :D

Wardrobe makeover?

I'm in love with this entire outfit. (From Lookbook.nu)

I love looking at Lookbook's site to get inspiration with what I can do with my own wardrobe. They have so many interesting people from all over the world with amazing fashion sense. Here are a few more of my recent favorites:

This is like the perfect fall/winter outfit! So chic, so many layers, but still looks so effortless..how does she do it?

Menswear is the new trend and I loveee it! I love the construction and detail of menswear, especially the jacket. I'm on the hunt to find a cute boyfriend blazer just like this one!

Definitely something I would wear! Loves!!

I'm going to start a new project to myself - to clean the hell out of my closet, and create new outfits from my existing wardrobe! I will share all of my outfits with you as I keep thinking of them! If you have any advice on what to do, let me know! It's going to take a lot of time, but I can't wait for the challenge!

Also, have you checked out this site yet? I mentioned it in my previous post but here it is again! It's just like Lookbook.nu - www.kanvaas.com If you're interested, here's the invite code: FQMag - from the fashion magazine I'm on staff with at UCSD.

If you are itching to go shopping for something different this weekend, check out Fashion Day Soiree in La Jolla this Sunday!
http://www.fashiondaysoiree.com/sandiego.htm

Make sure to RSVP soon to get in for free! I'm thinking of attending, so let me know if you would like to come as well!

Have a great night everyone!!

Almost the weekend!

Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months
-Oscar Wilde

I think this quote validates my reason to shop so much. It's TRUE though! Haha :)

Happy Thursday everyone! Man, I can't wait for this week to end - midterms, work, dance, internship, etc. are starting to pile up and I just need to relax for a bit. On the brighter side - I start my weekend in less than two hours and I'm performing with my team, 220, on Saturday! We are performing at Culture Shock Showcase this Saturday night at 7:30pm in Escondido's California Center of the Arts. A lot of great teams are performing at the showcase, it's definitely something you do NOT want to miss!! More details at www.myspace.com/cultureshocksandiego.

Oh wait! Have to run to my last class of the day! I will update this blog as soon as I get out! In the mean time, enjoy this amazing up and coming choreographer/dancer, Chris Martin (aka, Mari's younger brother). His musicality and style to this piece is unbelievable! And I love the song too!

Outfit of the Day

I'm going to start a new section in my blog that will show my outfits each day! Some days I will highlight a certain trend/look that I am really inspired by, or coordinate outfits for specific occasions. Stay tuned! :)

Outfit of the day

Details
Top: Papaya - $8
Scarf: H&M - $6
Jeans: Ross - $13
Sandals: D&V - $25
Bag: Lust4Luxe Luxury Handbags - Retail: $500
The perk of interning with a handbag designer? Getting the bag for FREE! :) I'm the walking advertisement for Lust4Luxe (www.lust4luxe.com) I absolutely adore this bag! Check out the site to see more of their amazing bags!

This is my shopping/going to school/casual outfit. I loveee accessories! A great way to change up an outfit is to add accessories! Buy a lot of chains, long necklaces, pearls, bracelets, and earrings to make a completely different outfit! Scarves are also one of my favorite accessories. Buy scarves that have a cool color pattern, but also colors that you already have in your wardrobe so it'll be easier for you to make outfits. The best place to buy scarves are at Forever 21 and H&M - cheap but very very cute!!

Shopping Heaven!

Hello readers!

Today was a very me day, which is something I really needed! I went shopping at UTC in La Jolla and finally shopped at Forever 21 - haven't been there in so long! Since I was alone, I was able to really take my time shopping, observing all of their new styles/pieces for Fall/Winter. Right now I'm really into the Bermuda Jeans that are pretty baggy, but still a perfect fit! Since the weather in San Diego has been so bipolar, I needed some bottoms are weren't as long as pants, but not as short as shorts - TA DA! It's super comfortable and pretty cheap -$16.90! PS - I'm still looking for the perfect boyfriend jeans!! Any suggestions on where to get them for cheap??

Jeans for $10?! :D

That is all for now! Time to go dance til who knows! :)

This is what you secretly lust for.

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you all had a great weekend, I sure did! Friday night I watched "Where the Wild Things Are" with a couple of my friends from 220 and absolutely loved that movie!! The book had such a great message to it that everyone should remember if they ever feel lost, fear, or feel like they have no where to turn. Just always remember that there is always family to go back to when you feel that way. A true inspiration of mine choreographed a piece to one of the songs on this movie's soundtrack that portrays the true message of this book, take a look! It's definitely worth your while.

Fashion time!

Goooood Morning!

Today's my midterm day - just finished one and have to study for one more at 11am! AHH Wish me luck!

As the Fashion Director of UCSD's "Fashion Quarterly" Magazine - formerly known as "Secret Scholar", I have the privilege of working with awesome photographers, designers, makeup artists, and hair stylists, models - plus many more! We are in the works of planning our Winter 2010 issue and I'm super excited to make it even better than the last issue! If you are a designer, makeup artist, etc etc and are interested in working with us for the next issue(s), please please email me at chesleycarele05@gmail.com. I want to meet anyone and everyone who is interested in this field, so please feel free to send me a message anytime! (Preferably before December 2009 since I need to coordinate the shoots and all that ;D)

If you haven't heard of UCSD's "Fashion Quarterly" before, please take a look at our past issues:

Spring 2009: http://secretscholar.ucsd.edu/flipbook_sp09/sp09.html
Winter 2009: http://secretscholar.ucsd.edu/flipbook/wi09.html

Can't wait to hear from all you fashionistas!

Looking back at the Spring 2010 Fashion shows, one of my favorite designers is Alexander Wang. For his most recent show, he showcased sportswear, and brought very timeless pieces. I personally love his unique construction of different fabrics and materials. The way he drapes fabric is also one of my favorite things about this designer. It looks very detailed but still very simple at the same time. Take a look at some of the outfits from the show:

Where's Waldo?? ;D

You can see the rest of his collection at: http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2010RTW-AWANG?page=1

Also, I just signed up for an account with this cool new fashion site where it lets you showcase your fashion sense, and people comment on it - just like Lookbook.nu. The creator is a UCSD student as well! If you want to sign up, here is an invitation code from Fashion Quarterly: FQMag. Please let me know if you signed up so we can be friends! :)

The pains of choreography

Happy Hump Day!!

Song of the day - Tell me what we're gonna do - Joss Stone ft. Common

Right now I'm having the worst choreographer's block ever. Our team is showcasing our choreography this Sunday and I'm extremely excited! The new team is amazing and we have a lot of fresh talent - BE READY! I'm trying to figure out what kind of piece I want to do - girly, emo, fun, weird? But the hardest hardest part is finding the SONG. If any of you have suggestions of cool songs with sick beats, please let me know!

As you know, I am part of 220 Second to None Hip Hop team in San Diego. We are performing at Culture Shock San Diego's Choreographer's Showcase on October 24th. It's going to be a greaaaat show, so please check out the flier!

If you haven't heard of 220 before, check out our Body Rock 2009 Performance from this past June! I choreographed the 2nd piece and final piece with my teammates!! Enjoy!

Now back to the joy of studying! Have a great Wednesday everyone!!

New blog, new canvas, ready to make it awesome!

Hello loved ones!

This is me, blogging after 5 years!? Don't worry, it won't be like Xanga at all (ex. Today I ate a grilled cheese sandwich and watched Rugrats)..okay maybe a LITTLE bit...but definitely more interesting for you!

In this blog I will update you with what's going on with my crazy, hectic life, as well as giving you random fashion advice/blurbs that might help you or not, haha.

Soo...one of the biggest news right now is that I am an agency represented model! The funny thing is that I actually interned with the agency I'm signed with - Jet Set Models. I never asked them or told them that I modeled because that would have been superrr awkward. But last week I received a call from one of my bosses and he left me a voice mail saying that he had something important to talk to me about. I thought I was in trouble...though I already finished my internship couple weeks ago lol. I called him back, he found out I modeled for a magazine, and here we are! :) I'm so excited I'm with them, they are all so nice, warm, and really awesome people. I'll definitely keep you all updated with that!

Since I'm on the topic of modeling, here are a few shots that I did with Chaz Cruz (www.chazcruz.com). The theme of this shoot was "Vintage Modern".
Makeup Artist: Rita Nguyen
Hair: July Chanthamart (I spelled it right without looking to check! Awesome!)

Hope you like these pictures! I will continue showing you more pictures from my recent photo shoots along the way. The con of being a full time UCSD student: midterms on my third week of school. Great. Back to studying!

Hugs and Hersheys Kisses (mmm!)
